Incident Details
In 1997, Chu was accused of sexually assaulting a 16 year old girl and charged with two counts of discreditable conduct under the Police Act. According to CBC, he was convicted of one count of misconduct and had a letter of reprimand placed on his file for five years. Chu is currently a sitting Calgary City Councillor, after being reelected in 2021. He was first elected in 2013, and retired as a police officer that same year. Following the details of the allegations and investigation against Chu's actions towards the 16 year old girl, many called for him to step down from his role as a councillor, which he refused to do. Chu was also sued civilly by the 1997 complainant. Chu was awarded an Exemplary Service Medal in 2014 by the Calgary Police Service.
